Coil Pots
For this project, we were told to make an 8 inch pot out of coils. We were allowed to start out with a base of a pinch pot. I did this, and as well the top was a pinch pot too. I decided to turn my pot into a mushroom. I used the end of a clay tool to put little dents in the top, and then I painted the holes white and the rest of it red. I painted the body of it a peach color. I decided to give it a mustache as well. For the stick holding the mustache I used the end of a broken paintbrush. I personally really loved this project. At first it was difficult to assemble, but after a while I got the hang of it.
Wheel bowl
This is the bowl that I made on the wheel. We were instructed to make a bowl of any size. I decided to make a basic bowl and paint a pattern onto it. This made this project easier because it had no height requirement and I didn't have troubles with the walls being floppy.
Independent Project
This is my final project. We were told to make anything as long as it was over a project that we have done this trimester. I chose to throw on the wheel, and then I had to slip and score the coils onto it. I really enjoyed this project because I was able to do whatever I wanted. I decided to make a stone pattern and put vines on the side. I as well decided to put a rose on the inside. Sadly. the bottom of the bowl did not survive the first firing and blew up.
Wheel Cylinder
We were told to throw a 6 inch cylinder on the wheel. I struggled with this project because I could not get the walls of the cylinder to be firm instead of floppy. In the end I decided to give it a lip and make it look like a pitcher. The cylinder was 6 inches high. This project ended up exploding in the kiln.
Slab project
We were instructed to make a slab project. It had to incorporate pattern in some way, so I decided to cut out some basic shapes into the front and back end of it.I struggled with this project the most because the slabs would not stick together. In the end it worked out; however, it was one of my messier looking projects.
Pinch Pots
I decided to do something a little bit different than a traditional looking pinch pot. I made a tub-like bottom and put legs on it. I decided to make a lid for the bottom piece, and a bubble on the top of the lid that you could grab so you can take the lid off. I also decided to make it hollow so it wouldn't explode when it got fired. I used a salmon color and a baby blue on both pieces.
